One of my favorite activities to plan and implement with young children is writing stories. It is simple because all you need to get started is an open heart and mind. Children can describe and name the characters of the story. They can decide which adventure they want those characters to go on. Starting with what the adventure will be and then developing the characters will help it be less overwhelming. Classrooms activities such as writing stories is a way to build social skills because everyone can contribute making the story richer. They also learn cooperation and if facilitated with an open-mind teachers and parents can then help children become very creative. At first children may find it difficult to get started. Adults can provide some basic pictures and photos to stir the imagination. I would love to hear how you lead children to write stories.
