What To Do About A “Monkey Mind”

Have You Ever Had A Monkey Mind

I recently had a day in which I felt I had a “Monkey Mind”. According to Whitney Stewart, author of Mindful Kids, this means that you are restless, agitated and distracted. On this particular day, I also felt that there were so many things on my mind it was like constant chatter. It caused my whole day to be off schedule. I felt so agitated. The day ended and so many of my goals were not realized. I had to take a moment to clear my mind. I did this by simply taking three soft slow breaths to help me focus on that moment in time. I stopped thinking about how things had gone wrong and remembered that at any moment you can begin fresh and finish strong. I think that sometimes children are faced with these very things. The difference between children and myself (and other adults) is that they don’t know what to do. They need experiences to figure that out. What do you do to calm your “Monkey Mind” and what can you do to help the young children you work with either as a parent or a teacher?
