Today I pondered the question: Where in the home are the children’s toys? I think the answer varies depending on the family. The possibilities I thought of include: 1) toys are in a designated playroom and all toys must remain in that room, 2) toys are in the child’s room, 3) toys are in the family room. 4) toys are everywhere Then I began to wonder why there are differences. 1) is it a housekeeping preference? 2) is it to give a child control over their toys 3) is it because no one is in control 4) is it for supervision and interaction preferences
I thought about it this all day yesterday and wonder if it matters. Is it important for children’s toys to be in the family room so that play time is a “family affair”? Is there a relationship between how a parent kept their toys when they were children?
Looking back on my childhood, which was a very long time ago. I remember that toys went in a toy box which could vary from a box built and marketed as a toy box or a simple cardboard box. Which room the toy box was in is somewhat of a mystery. I distinctly remember that at my paternal grandparents’ house it was a cardboard box and it was kept in a bedroom, but I think we played anywhere. At home I really can’t remember. I think this is a conversation I will have with my mother.
